Mi Rancho's History

Our Family Tradition Continues - Manuel Berber, President

In 1954, my father and grandfather, Robert Berber Jr and Sr., purchased the fledging 10,000 square foot Mi Rancho business. Under my father's leadership Mi Rancho expanded it's wholesale business and distribution to the Greater Bay Area and began building a reputation for custom tortilla products. The Mi Rancho name soon became synonymous with integrity, service, quality and authenticity.

From 1973 through 1999, Mi Rancho confirmed it's position as a leading industry innovator in custom artisan tortillas, further expanded its wholesale focus, achieved national distribution and built a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility capable of producing millions of tortillas per day.

As the third generation of Berbers to run Mi Rancho, I continue my family's tradition of producing tortillas of the highest quality using the freshest ingredients, traditional methods and state-of-the art equipment. Under my leadership we have achieved organic, Kosher Parve and AIB certifications and expanded our product line to include tortilla chips and corn strips. We continue to explore new product offerings and manufacturing effiencies through our active R&D program and are pushing further into the international distribution network. We're here to stay and welcome the opportunity to discuss what we can do for you."

Where it all began -

Where it all began

It was 1939 when Mi Rancho moved its operation into the former Southern Pacific passenger depot (photo above) on 7th street in Oakland, California. It was the only Mexican market around and there was a ready and hungry market for their fresh handmade tortillas.

Now, more than half a century later, Mi Rancho is known nationally for producing premium traditional and artisan tortillas of the highest quality, tailored to the exacting specifications of Mexican foods, the fastest growing segment of the U.S. food industry.
