RECIPE

Taco Meat

Alexa Shields

Make your own taco seasoning from spices at home rather than a pre-made packet so that you can control the spices. Add this to any meat or tofu for a classic saucy filling for your favorite Mi Rancho Tortilla.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. Chile Powder
  • 1 tsp. Ground Cumin
  • 1 tsp. Coriander
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
  • ½ tsp. Paprika
  • ½ tsp. Cayenne Pepper (Less to Reduce Heat)
  • ½ tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 lb. Ground Beef (Ground Turkey, Ground Chicken or Tofu Will Also Work)
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spatula into small pieces as it cooks. Keep moving it around and breaking it up until it has browned. If using ground beef, drain excess fat.

In a small bowl, mix all spices together. Add spices to the beef and toss to coat. Add 1 cup water and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and keep cooking for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally as sauce thickens.
